  1. The Quit India Movement Day is annually observed across India on 8 August to commemorate the launch of the Quit India Movement on 8 August, 1942. The day pays tribute to the martyrs and freedom fighters of the Independence movement.   
  2. On 7 August 2023, India observed the third National Javelin Day, dedicated to celebrating the awe-inspiring achievement of Neeraj Chopra, who made an indelible mark on the global stage.
  3. Kiwi, a fintech company specializing in enabling credit on UPI, has partnered with Axis Bank to introduce a lifetime free Axis Bank KWIK credit cards through its app.
  4. The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has developed The ‘MASI’ application for real-time monitoring of Child Care Institutions (CCIs) and their inspection process across the country.
  5. The Ministry of Minority Affairs implemented ‘Naya Savera’ scheme also known as ‘Free Coaching and Allied’ scheme to assist students/candidates belonging to the six minority communities namely Sikh, Jain, Muslim, Christian, Buddhist and Parsi by way of special coaching for qualifying examinations.
  6. England batter Alex Hales on 4 August 2023, announced his retirement from international cricket with immediate effect, at the age of 34.
  7. Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba has been officially granted a one-year extension by the Central government, making him the longest-serving cabinet secretary in India’s history. 
  8. The Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) and the World Bank have joined forces to develop a comprehensive roadmap for integrating hydrogen blending in natural gas and establishing the infrastructure for their transmission through gas pipelines in the country.
  9. Indian Air Force received air-launched Israeli Spike Non Line of Sight (NLOS) Anti-Tank Guided Missiles (ATGM) from Israel which can hit targets upto 50 km from a helicopter and 32 km from the ground. The NLOS missiles will be integrated with the fleet of Russian-origin Mi-17V5 helicopters, manufactured by Kazan Helicopters.
  10. Indian athlete Kishore Jena won the gold medal in the men’s javelin throw at Sri Lanka National Athletics meet with a personal best throw of 84.38m.
  11. With a vision to create a just world that values and conserve nature, IUCN Species Survival Commission has partnered with Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) to set up the first-ever Center for Species Survival in South Asia.
  12. The State Government of Kerala has launched a groundbreaking scheme called ‘Shubhayatra’ which aims to provide much-needed financial support to first-time overseas emigrants from Kerala, facilitating a positive and productive migration ecosystem.
  13. The Indian women’s compound team of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Aditi Swami and Parneet Kaur won the gold medal at the 2023 Berlin World Archery Championships beating Mexico 235-229 in the final. It was India’s first-ever gold at the archery world championships in any category.
  14. Alexei Popyrin clinched the Croatia Open title after winning the final against Stan Wawrinka in Umag at the ATP 250.
  15. The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully launched its PSLV-C56 rocket carrying seven Singaporean satellites from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota.
  16. Renowned folk singer and activist Gaddar passed away on 6 August, 2023 at the age of 74.
